During March 2006, relatives of the Fuqua family, Jay & Shannon Rigsby, Fran Nichols & Owen Gleaves, and members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Marty Crain, Samuel E. Steele, Sam Fleming & Debbie Wililams as well as George Wilkertson and Lynn Hightower, cleared away overgrowth, including invasive plants & trees and restored the beauty of the cemetery. .
The original survey of the Fuqua-Vanderville Cemetery was made on January 16, 2004, when the tombstones were covered over with the branches of fallen trees. Volunteer surveyors were able to see some tombstones under the tree branches but could not reach them to read the inscriptions.
On April 8, 2006, after the clearing, Fran Nichols and Shannon Rigsby re-surveyed the tombstones. These inscriptions were recorded at that time:
VIRGINIA BAKER (hand carved stone, partially underground)
W. T. GREER. Died June 1872/1875 (hand carved stone)
T. FUQUA. Died 1859
JAMES W. ELLIS (hand carved stone)
