Additions to James D. Smith Cemetery. NE-41
Becky Duncan, a descendant of the Smith family, sent information to the Davidson County Cemetery Survey on May 11, 2006. Jack Zuccarello had earlier, in March 2006, sent data about this cemetery. Both sources verified that the wife of James D. Smith was also buried in this cemetery. Jack Zuccarello located the Death Certificate and Obituary for Maggie Ann Smith, wife of James D. Smith. Becky Duncan provided the following family history:
“I remember the cemetery when I was a small child. It was part of the Smith family farm which consisted of acres of land, a barn and a log structure. Our family used to go there on Sunday afternoons and ride horses. One of the descendants, my father’s cousin, still owned the land but did not live there… Maggie Ann (Crump) Smith was the second wife of James D. Smith. Her parents were Robert Crump and Amanda (Brigance) Crump who were both born in Sumner County, TN. They moved to Davidson County about 1880 when Maggie was very small. Maggie’s younger brother, Luther Crump was my grandfather. My father told me Maggie was buried ‘at home’ which was this cemetery on the farm. James D. and Maggie had a daughter named Marie who married a man named Howard. I feel sure that the baby’s tombstone was their child…”
