SHUTE - SPENCE CEMETERY (LOST)
NW-21: NASHVILLE, DAVIDSON COUNTY, TN
Original location. In the present day vicinity of 6119 Charlotte Pike, the former site of the Brent Spence’s home.
Cemetery lost. Tombstones were visible in the 1920s.
Historical information sent by Sarah Foster Kelley to Fletch Coke, June 22, 2000. John Shute gave the land purchased from Dr. Felix Robertson to his daughter, Elizabeth, after her marriage to Brent Spence. The Spences built a Greek Revival styled mansion in 1831. In the 1920s a resident recalled that the cemetery was located behind the house. The house, known as "Casa Loma" in the 1920s was razed in the 1960s.
