      Helena Read Shannon Born 1813  Died 1820  was the daughter of Samuel Shannon, Jr. (1780-1851) and Catherine Motheral Shannon (1784-1867). They left Tennessee about 1836 and moved to Mississippi. They first lived about 4 miles southeast of Pontotoc, Pontotoc County, Miss.and then moved to Itawamba County, Miss. The Town of Shannon, in Lee County, Mississippi., was named for Samuel Shannon, Jr. and his family.  Catherine and Samuel Shannon, Jr. are buried in the Shannon Cemetery in Shannon, Mississippi.
